Phenomenal Women Of The Web

Stinger Work In Progress
  • Originally started: 7/2005

  • Completed: 10/2005

  • Tools: Paint Shop Pro 9 and Wacom graphics tablet

  • Original Inspiration: A photo by a stock photography artist on Deviant Art.

  • Other Comments: I hated doing the stripes on this one. They gave me fits from day one. LOL The images here are from the original version I did. I was unable to offer this version for sale as the stock photographer wouldn't allow the image with the background based on his stock photo to be sold. I could likely have gotten by with it legally since the portion used was very small and heavily altered. However, I decided to dig through my photos instead and see what I could find that might be useful. I still feel, however, that this is the better version.

This is the secondary sketch, done digitally to clean it up from the original pencil one I did.

Stage two. Here a lot of the color is already blocked in and the photo manipulated background is in place. There's another layer in front of that with the distortion on it.

The beginnings of muscle shading and that hellish shading around the stripes beings to be apparent in this stage. The boots were looking nice and I was very happy with how they were coming out.

The finished image. This took a while to do as the wings were done through a complex series of steps utilizing hand painting, filtering and layer transparency adjustment. I was very happy with how they turned out. My only regret is that I didn't write down the process, so I doubt I could reproduce it. *pout*
